we only have 4 more practices to our soundcheck at syf. miss tham is coming on Monday. Please take note that practice on Monday starts at 3.30pm at the choir room. Please don't be late okay!!! Practice will end at 6.30pm.

Tomorrow's 团圆饭 will be at a Steamboat Buffet Restaurant in Bugis. It will cost $17.50 per person. If you have any allergies to some stuff, please tell me before the dinner okay! Also, please bring home clothes to change into for the dinner hor :)

Practice will start at 1.50pm tomorrow, meet at the bball court. There is pt!

Lastly, remember to revise and bring your scores tomorrow, Mr Tay is coming.

i havent blogged in a looooong time. So since im being bored here, having got no visting to do yet.. i shall POST =)

No one has the details to the venue of the dinner.. (due to ahem ahem)but itll most likely be a steamboat.. I'll update you guys ASAP regarding where the dinner's gonna be held okayy!

Anyway, some reminders:

1) choir as usual this fri (pt at 150, mr tay will be coming!)

2) 16th feb- Soundcheck @ VCH
that means 5 more practices to our soundcheck at VCH. Thats not much time. So JIAYOUS EVERYONE!

We can do this right? Whats our aim this time?!?! Eh i should be hearing you shout (retardedly) in front of your comps: GOLD WITH HONOURS!

We all know we're not up to the GWH standard yet. But I'm really proud of your guys for making the effort to make White Horses what it sounds today.. It really is a great improvement okay! But we wont stop there right? Theres still Ri Weng and our last piece (which is yet to be confirmed)

Since we dont have much time till our soundcheck (when our tuning, timing, and basic dynamics should be done by then), pls pls pls pls revise your scores at home ok!

Ive been telling the sops to sing through all the pieces on hand at least once before they come for any practice. So i hope this will also happen for the other 3 sections. There're some things that can easily be done by ANY member of the choir (whether you do music or not. i personally dont).

The general rule is: to know your part extremely well. You should be able to sing NOW without the help of anyone or any instrument( except for the starting note perhaps)
Basics for the songs we're doing:

For white horses:
- remember all the cut-offs. the "t"s and the "ts" etc. not forgetting all the pronouciation!! ENGLISH!!!
- dynamics! keep it up!(zixuan went through them already)
- Sops: timing! Try taking sometime to get the correct tempo.. Remember what mr tay did? We have to stop LAGGING. =P

Ri Weng:
- i think the main problem we face is memory.. How familiar we are with the song and all.. So we gotta stop depending on other sections.. and start singing separate parts FIRST. The song will be too fast for us to get out entries with the help of cues from other sections. For those who went to vienna, you know what happened!
- Sops: If you have a piano at home, pls go play your part once through. If not, SOLFEGE! You will realise that many of your havent been singing correctly!
- and yes, DYNAMICS (it isnt in yet, is it?)

I wont comment on deprofundis and kyrie yet, since we just started. But the general rule implies!

ok, SO ITS 5 MORE PRACTICES! We gotta do this yea? WE CAN do this if we stay as ONE CHOIR. ONE VOICE. Commitment is all we need!

Hi all, hmm, looks like my intensive drilling has come to an end for this term. Hope it leaves fond memories behind. all things that i DID must and must be remember and sing them to the conductors. That's my only hope and wish for choir to get GWH. So please, do all your best!! i post this early cause i am a little bit emo now!! ya sort of! That's because we are leaving soon and all i want to leave with you all is my LAUGHTER and my MUSIC SKILLS!! my only wish: I want ALL OF YOU ALL TO BE IN SYF, cause me and my music comm train like mad for you all!! Date: 23rd Jan, Friday.

Venue: basketball court (there is pt)

Also, regarding PT before school on Mondays. We have decided that pt will start at 7.50am (meet at parade square flagpole area). We will run around the school compound and play ball games after that. PT will end at around 8.30am.

Also, I also hope everybody (in general) will be more disciplined and focused. We have been doing pretty well w/o conductors :) In the past I totally did not understand and see how tough it really is to be a leader/comm member. I basically took everything for granted. I did not appreciate all the things my seniors had done for the choir, for us. It was only until the beginning of year 2, when I was in orientation, I saw all the things my seniors had to manage. And I only truly began to feel what it is like to have heavy responsibility on my shoulders after handover in 2007. That's when I realised I have disappointed Zhuofei, Yu Xuan etc. I hope that all dhschoristers will realize that a new batch of year ones will be joining us soon, and as seniors we have to be role models. For the year 2s, it is your first time being seniors and the new members will be your direct juniors. For the year 3s who will be taking over very soon (like 3 more months), ask yourselves if you have been a good role model so far and where are your areas for improvement and what have you learnt from being a senior. For the year 4s who are leaving soon, hope you guys will give choir your everything and your best for the last few months in choir. So I hope you guys can really live up to your potential. If you don't listen to the comm or whoever is leading whatever, it is natural for the juniors to follow wise and disrespect whatever the seniors say. No matter what decisions are made, I think most decisions are made with the good of the choir in mind. Of course there will be different perspectives on what's good and bad for the choir, but we need to have a common goal in mind, okay? So everybody jiayou!!! 3 more months to syf, and it's already LESS THAN ONE MONTH to our soundcheck at VCH. Definitely running out of time, but we can do it :)

Hi choir. For those who did not turn up for practice today, the choir learnt De Profundis. So please revise your scores over the weekend and make sure you catch up before Monday's practice because Miss Tham will be with us on Monday. Also, I went through some new rules and regulations with the choir.

1. If you did not wear your choir badge/ lost your choir badge /your choir badge is spoilt, please pay XinTong $3 and get a badge from Ximeng, Charmaine or Gillian.

2. Late forms will be given (from Kasey) if you are late. If you have to meet a teacher for certain reasons, please sms me asap. There will be a buffer time of 10mins. Try your best NOT to meet teachers before choir.

3. From now on, please get your leave forms from your section leaders. After that, please find Miss Low SH (new choir teacher-in-charge who teaches Maths @ Staffroom 2) to make sure your leave form is approved. After that, you will still need to inform your sl that your leave has been approved.

4. Handphones have to be surrendered before choir practices. ALL handphones must be turned off or on silent mode.

Also, choir practices on Mondays will start at 3.30pm to 6.30pm in the choir room. Friday practices will include PT from 1.50pm and practice will end at 6pm. Please be reminded our first Saturday practice starts on 14 march, 8.30am to 12.30pm. Please make sure you can make it for ALL Saturday practices if possible, thanks.

the first practice will be on Tuesday, 6 Jan. Practice will start at 2pm @ choir room for EVERYBODY! Please pass around this message. EVERYBODY has to turn up for choir practice on Tuesday, 6 Jan!!!

the second practice will be on Friday, 9 Jan. Practice will start at 1.50pm. Venue is not confirmed but we will most probably have PT. Everyone is to attend this practice.

Also, orientation people please take note!!! Attire for orientation is choir tee + school skirt/pants. Please meet at choir room at 7.20am sharp. Do NOT be late because we have to do warm ups etc. Everyone is to bring a SPOON (because we gotta put the popcorn into the cones). So remember to bring a spoon on wednesday okay!!! A DHS Choir member is responsible for the following:
1. DHS Code of Conduct
1.1 Basic respect and greeting

2. Choir Schedule
Choir practices are on Mondays: 330 – 630pm & Fridays: 230 – 530pm
Extra practices (E.g. Saturdays) will be conducted nearer SYF or Concert period.

3. Application for leave. Teacher i.c.: Mdm Low Siok Hong
3.1 Apply for leave (with supporting documents + leave form) or exemption at least 5 days before any choir activity . This applies to all prior appointments, official school activities and personal affairs. Leave forms can be retrieved from Sectional Leader.
3.2 Submit MC within 2 days after the day(s) of absence. Parent’s letter will only be considered case by case basis.
3.3 Apply for early departures on the day of choir activity should the need arise.
3.4 Inform respective section leaders when leave is approved.
3.5 Absence without prior approval or valid reasons will be dealt with the following way:
(a) 1st absence: Warning
(b) 2nd absence: Letter to parents
(c) 3rd absence: Disciplinary Action (and no CCA points)
3.6 PT takes a separate attendance to practice / rehearsal. Hence there are 2 attendance-marking every Friday. The same rule applies as the above should any member misses PT.

4.Dress code
4.1 Choir collar badges must be worn in school. Members caught not wearing the badge would have to purchase one at $2 each for the 1st time and $3 for subsequent times, regardless the reasons. The money will be contributed to the general choir funds.
4.2 Only school approved T- shirts and school shorts/pants/skirts are allowed during practices / PT within the premises throughout the year. Only school shoes are allowed.

5.Punctuality
5.1 All members MUST report on time for ALL choir activities unless approval has been seek from the teachers in charge.
5.2 If one has a reason (e.g. see a teacher urgently), the arrival time should not be more than 10 minutes late and the teacher-in-charge has to be informed. One will be considered late after 10 mins.
5.3 Latecomers will be dealt with the following way:
(a) 1st late-coming: Fill up late form + warning
(b) 2nd late-coming: Fill up late form+ 1 day absence
(c) 3rd late-coming: Fill up late form + maximum 75% attendance, inclusive of other leaves.

6. During choir activities
6.1 No eating, drinking, reading, talking, or playing during any choir activity.
6.2 ALL members are to silence their handphones before every practice / rehearsals. Anyone caught using handphones during any choir activity will face disciplinary action + confiscation of handphone for up to 10 weeks.
6.3 ALL members should prepare the following for every practice / rehearsal:
(a) Pencil
(b) Water bottle (with plain water)
(c) Scores: Members with no score MUST buy and pay the Welfare Head at $1 per score before practice / rehearsal. Maximum fine: $5 per day.
6.4 Clean and tidy up all utilized premises after every activity.
